The “James Joyce School” is a High School Specializing in Foreign Languages and Human Sciences. It is located in Ariccia, a city near Rome. It is a public, secular and pluralist school, attended by 1.300 students, more or less, distributed in 58 classes and aged from 14 to 19 years old. There are more than 130 teachers. It is a young school with an intercultural vocation that aims to educate through inclusion inside and outside the school. It has offered families a training agreement based on participation and the assumption of educational co-responsibility since 2000, with a linguistic and socio-psycho-educational orientation. The name “James Joyce” confirms the international profile of the studies. In this perspective, in 2002, the school established the ESABAC course section, and in 2017 it obtained the Cambridge International School Registration with the introduction of new subjects in our Cambridge Curricula, just like Geography, Biology; Chemistry and Global Perspectives.
The mission of our Institute is to project our students towards an artistic, cultural, political, social and human horizon that starts from the local and reaches the global reality including the constitutive values of the European Union. As a High School specializing in foreign Languages and Human Sciences, it has always involved its students in Diplomacy Projects, creating a collaboration with many Embassies that are in Rome. Furthermore students experience frequent Exchanges with other European Schools in Germany, Spain, France, Denmark , Hungary.
Besides the traditional courses above mentioned, there is the project of giving students the opportunity to study English as a linguistic vehicle to learn scientific subjects. It is based on the strengthening of subjects such as Maths, Computer Technology, Natural Sciences, Chemistry, Biology and it is known as Bio-Scientific High School specializing in Foreign Languages. Mention must be done of the participation of 20 students chosen among the ones attending the 5th classes, who take part in the ABE (Amgen Biotech Experience) activities between the end of January and the start of February every year. Since 2020 the James Joyce school has started three different Erasmus+ projects, two as coordinator and one as partner. They were KA226, KA229 and KA220 projects dealing with blended teaching and learning, environment actions and digital literacy.
Finally, since 2019 the James Joyce school is member of the European Student Council that takes place every year in Strasbourg and it’s an important e-twinning project involving more than 100 students from 7 European countries.
